Stop for School Buses – It’s the Law
To protect student safety, drivers are required by law to stop under the following circumstances:

When you approach or overtake a stopped school bus with red flashing lights and the stop arm extended

When approaching an intersection where a school bus is stopped with red flashing lights and the stop arm extended
You must:

Stop at least 10 feet away from the school bus

Remain stopped until the red lights stop flashing and the stop arm is fully retracted

Wait until all children have safely reached a secure location before proceeding

Penalties for Violating the School Bus Stopping Law
If convicted, you will face the following consequences:

60-day driver’s license suspension

Five (5) points added to your driving record

$250 fine
