Flexible Instruction Day (FID)
The Rochester Area School District may use Flexible Instructional Days (FIDs) when weather conditions or other emergencies prevent students from attending school in person. FIDs allow students to continue learning from home without requiring the school day to be made up later.
How Families Will Be Notified
When a FID is called, families and staff will be notified through:
- District phone calls, emails, and text messages
- The district website
- The district Facebook page
- Local media outlets
Information about Flexible Instructional Days will be shared throughout the school year so students and families know what to expect before a FID occurs.
How Students Will Access Learning
All students in grades K–12 are provided with a district-issued iPad. Instruction and assignments will be delivered through:
- Google Classroom
- Google Meet
Because students regularly use these platforms throughout the school year, they are familiar with accessing lessons, assignments, and teacher support.
What a Flexible Instructional Day Looks Like
Middle and high school students will follow the district's two-hour delay schedule on FID days. Teachers will provide a combination of:
- Live instruction through Google Meet
- Independent learning activities through Google Classroom
Students should check Google Classroom for assignments and Google Meet links for each of their classes.
