Rochester Music Department

We believe that students should have the opportunity to participate in as many school activities as possible throughout their school experience. We strive to make schedules align, allowing students to participate in multiple activities at the same time. Students are encouraged to participate in band, chorus, clubs and organizations, and athletics, perhaps all at the same time! At Rochester, we offer students the opportunity to participate in the following ensembles:

Marching Band, directed by Ms. Carr

Students in grades 7-12 have the opportunity to continue their musical development by participating in The Pride of Rochester: The Rochester High School Marching Band. This ensemble is a co-curricular course for high school band students, meaning participation is required; however, seventh and eighth grade students are encouraged to participate as well. In this ensemble, students will expand their skill set to include corps-style marching and memorizing music and drill. The Band performs at all home and away football games, Halloween parades, the Beaver County Veterans Day parade, and many other events. At the conclusion of the marching season, students will learn Concert Band repertoire in preparation for the Christmas concert.

High School Symphonic Band, directed by Ms. Carr

A group for all high school band students, grades 9-12, that want to continue their musical development and desire the most out of their band experience. High school band students will participate in both this ensemble and The Marching Band. Once the marching season ends, students will begin to study repertoire in preparation for the Christmas Concert in December. This ensemble performs at least three concerts per year. Additionally, students have the opportunity to be selected to perform in Pennsylvania Music Education Association events.

Middle School Concert Band, directed by Ms. Carr

A group for all middle school band students, grades 6-8, that want to continue studying their instrument, or play an instrument for the very first time.. As a seventh or eighth grade middle school band student, you have the opportunity to participate in The Marching Band. This Concert Band performs at least two concerts per year. Additionally, seventh and eighth grade band students have the opportunity to be selected to perform in Pennsylvania Music Education Association events.

Elementary Band, directed by Ms. Carr

Fourth and fifth grade students have the opportunity to learn an instrument for the very first time. Students are placed in a rotation schedule and are taught lessons during their scheduled music class time. Instruments can be rented from Brighton Music Center or Volkwein’s. Students enroll in lessons during the month of September each school year.

High School Chorus, directed by Mrs. Frankenstein

A group for high school students, grades 9-12, that want to continue to develop their voices and sing in an ensemble setting.  Students will continue to work on singing in more advanced part-singing and prepare repertoire for three concerts per year.  Students will also have opportunities to represent Rochester at various PMEA festivals throughout the year.

Middle School Chorus, directed by Mrs. Frankenstein

A group for middle school students, grades 6-8, who want to learn how to sing with an ensemble.  Students will work on singing in parts and repertoire for two concerts per year.  Sixth grade students may have an opportunity to represent Rochester at Pennsylvania Music Education Association Songfest.  Seventh and eighth grade students will also have an opportunity to be selected for PMEA Jr. High District Chorus.

All-School Musical

All students in grades 6-12 are welcome and encouraged to audition for our yearly musical.  Students will audition in the fall and perform in the spring each year.  Your musical and creative talents are needed on the stage!
